Hosts Spain won four of the five gold medals available on day two of the International Swimming Federation Artistic Swimming World Series leg in Madrid.

The day started with victory for home pairing Paula Ramirez and Sara Saldaña in the duet technical routine final.

They were the strongest performers at the Swimming Center M-86, managing 86.3442 points.

The Netherlands’ Noortje de Brouwer and Bregje de Brouwer finished second with 81.4378 points, while Belarus’ Iryna Limanouskaya and Veronika Yesipovich came third with 81.3193.

"We have been training a lot and obviously in training there is no pressure, there are no nerves and there are things that work out better," Ramirez said.

"Here with all the judges in front of us, there may be mistakes but we train hard every day to do it better and better.

"We still have a month-and-a-half for the most important event of the year, the European Championships in Glasgow, and we will try to do it perfect."

In duet mixed technical routine, Spain’s Berta Ferreras and Pau Ribes triumphed with 82.1257 points, beating Kazakhstan's Sofiya Lyakh and Olzhas Makhanbetiyarov by a margin of 22.1722.

Spain then continued its winning streak in the free combination routine.

Leyre Abadia, Abril Conesa, Ferreras, Emma Garcia, Carmen Juarez, Meritxell Mas, Elena Melian, Ramirez, Saldaña and Blanca Toledano captured the gold medal with 90.8332 points.

A score of 78.5332 points secured the silver medal for Hungary’s Anna Apáthy, Janka David, Boglárka Gács, Mira Gerstenkorn, Szabina Hungler, Szofi Kiss, Luca Renyi, Anna Viktória Szabo and Veronka Szabo.

There was also success for Spain in the team free routine final with 91.8332 points.

Their story was based on life in a factory.

Austria finished second with 77.7000 points, while Hungary came third with 77.6000.

Today’s one other event saw Switzerland’s Vivienne Koch win the free solo routine final.

Koch, who claimed the solo technical routine gold medal yesterday, scored 78.0000 points.

Kiss finished second with 76.0668 points, while Austria’s Ivette Pinter came third with 74.3332 points.

Action in Madrid is due to conclude tomorrow with medals being awarded in the duet free, mixed duet free and highlight events.
