Jonaš Kašpar and Marek Šindler marked their last C2 race at a major event in style as they clinched the gold medal in front of their home crowd at the Canoe Slalom European Championships in Prague.

The Czech duo marked the end of their professional careers as a team with arguably their biggest victory as they topped the podium with a time of 107.99sec.

Robert Behling and Thomas Becker of Germany were forced to settle for the silver medal as they finished 0.87 behind in second, denying the home country a one-two.

Ondřej Karlovský and Jakub Jáně of the Czech Republic were the recipients of the bronze medal.

"We cannot be happier that we won gold medal in front of incredible Czech audience," said Šindler.

"We wished to finish our journey being on top and we managed that. 

"That's awesome."

Slovenian veteran Peter Kauzer rolled back the years with a vintage performance as he claimed his first individual continental title in eight years in the men's K1 event.

The 34-year-old, silver medallist in the K1 race at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, sealed the gold medal with a time of 91.02.

Reigning team world champion Vít Přindiš of the Czech Republic took silver, 0.51 seconds adrift of the Slovenian, and team-mate and Olympic bronze medallist Jiří Prskavec did enough for third place.

Austrian Viktoria Wolffhardt ended her long wait for a European crown as she triumphed in the women's C1 final.

Wolffhardt, a three-time World Championships medallist, had previously won silver and bronze at the conntiental event but struck gold today after recording a time of 119.01.

Britain's Mallory Franklin took silver and Elena Apel of Germany claimed bronze.
