UniSport Australia has signed a three-year partnership with the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF).

The deal will see cheer and dance competitions take place at the country's UniSport Nationals for the next three years.

"Cheer and dance is a high participation sport in the university sector," said UniSport Australia chief executive Don Knapp.

"The increasing popularity of the sport, and rapidly improving skill levels of cheer athletes, places Australia in an excellent position for great results at the inaugural World University Cheerleading Championship in Poland this October.

"With this partnership we are confident of continued growth of the sport in the university sector over the next three years."

As well as delivery of the National Championship, the partnership will also involve the training of university coaches and the creation of a long term plan for the development of cheer and dance at student level.

Support will be given to the Australian team so they can attend the World Championship.

"As the leading provider of support and competition opportunities to university cheer and dance teams, AASCF is proud to partner with UniSport Australia to assist in the management and development of this fast growing and exciting sector of our sport," AASCF programme director Rosemary James said.

"University divisions under the AASCF have been growing in popularity over the last five years and we are thrilled that, with this partnership, UniSport and AASCF can develop a long term plan for the sport of cheer and dance in a tertiary setting."
