Ukraine and China enjoyed success on the opening day of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Artistic Swimming World Series event in Los Angeles.

The Synchro America competition is taking place at the La Mirada Splash Aquatic Center in the Californian city.

Two disciplines were contested on the opening day, with the technical duet and team competitions the focus of attention.

Ukraine were victorious in the latter, with their squad claiming gold with a total of 89.5333 points.

They were followed by Japan and Canada, who managed totals of 87.6724 and 85.9062 respectively.

Hosts United States missed out on a podium finish after finishing fourth on 83.2654.

China's Ting Ting Jiang and Wen Wen Jiang celebrated victory in the technical duet competition.

The pairing produced an impressive performance to top the standings with 90.0649 points.

Ukraine's Anastasiya Savchuk and Yelyzaveta Aleksiiva clinched the silver on 89.8886.

Bronze was earned by Japan's Minami Kono and Yuriko Osawa, who the judges gave a score of 86.3859 for their routine.

Competition will continue tomorrow with the mixed technical duet tech, free combination and team free events taking place.

Action is taking place over three days in what marks the eighth-stop of the World Series.
