They beat Argentina 2-0 in the final at the Colegio Sagrado Corazón this afternoon in what was an exact repeat of the fixture in 2014.

The two sides are widely regarded as the best teams in the world so their presence in the final was always expected. 

Indeed they also met in the final of the American Championships in December.

That time out Argentina won on penalties. 

It was a tense game in Madrid with a number of impressive saves made in both goals.

At half time the match remained 0-0, but the now five-time world champions Brazil eventually proved too hot to handle.

A wonder goal from Richardinho after 23 minutes broke the deadlock, before Nonato scored the second and winning goal for the Paralympic gold medallists with five minutes to go.

Argentina's best chance came in the 33rd minute but perhaps in a sign that it was not to be, David Peralta shot wide from right in front of the goal.

After the final whistle the tournament's top scorer Richardinho said: "I am very happy. 

"I am proud of myself because I broke my nose during the semi-final and I had problems with breathing.

"I am proud of the sacrifice of the whole team to win the World Cup."

Elsewhere on the final day of play, China won the bronze medal after beating Russia 2-1 in a tense play-off for third this morning.

A brace by Zhang Jiabin proved enough to hold off the Russians, who had several chances to equalise after their first goal from Tikhonov. 

The year's World Championships was the biggest yet, with 16 teams taking part.

Previously the competition has only involved either 10 or 12 teams.
