Ninety-five athletes from 20 countries are set to compete in what is the last major tournament before the World Championships in Liverpool in August.

All four individual events are set to star the number one ranked players in the world.

The BC1 could bring a rematch of the Rio 2016 Paralympic final, with Great Britain's top-ranked David Smith and Dutch world number two Daneil Perez both on the entry list. 

The two also met in the final of the Regional Open in Madrid last March, which Paralympic winner Smith won.

Greece's Greg Polychronidis currently tops the BC3 standings and he will enter the tournament tomorrow with momentum, having won gold in Madrid by beating another British player, Jamie McCowan.

In the same category Portugal's Jose Macedo, who won bronze at Rio 2016, will be tough to beat on home soil.

Another British player, Stephen McGuire, leads the world rankings in the BC4 category. 

McGuire has already won competitions in Madrid and Montreal this year.

His toughest challenger is likely to be Thailand's Pornchok Larpyen who is ranked second, though in contrast to McGuire, Larpyen has not competed internationally yet this year. 

Other Thais taking part in Povoa include Watcharaphon Vongsa and Worawut Saengampa, who are likely to come up against each other in the BC2.

Vongsa beat Saengampa to win both the last Paralympic and Asian titles, meaning Saengampa will have a point to prove. 

Great Britain are the highest ranked country in both pairs BC3 and BC4 events in Povoa.

The World Open will run until July 9, exactly a month before the World Championships.
