The United States clinched their fifth consecutive International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Under-17 World Cup title with a comfortable victory over France in Argentina.

The American side, who remain the only team to have ever won the event, thrashed France 95-52 in the final at the Union Athletic Club in Santa Fe.

The triumph for the US saw the dominant force at under-17 level stretch their winning run at the tournament to 37 matches, dating back to the inaugural World Cup in 2010.

Puerto Rico claimed the bronze medal as they beat Canada 90-77.

The US controlled the gold medal match from start to finish and used a 20-2 run in the second quarter to further cement their supremacy over the French team, who were competing in their first final.

They led 45-25 at half-time and extended their lead in the second-half on their way to recording a commanding victory.

Isaiah Stewart led the scoring for the US as he racked up 15 points and nine rebounds, while three of his team-mates also ended the game with double figures.

Killian Hayes was France's top performer with 10 points but his efforts were in vain as the French were unable to cope with the strength of the American team.

Jalen Green of the US was named most valuable player of the tournament after he averaged 15.7 points per game.

The US were presented with the Under-17 World Cup by FIBA President Horacio Muratore, who was in attendance at the final.

"This team, from day one, I knew they could be special, and they certainly ended up being a special group," said US head coach Don Showalter.

"They are probably as good as any under-17 team that we have had, from a standpoint of how well they get along with one another.

"They are great teammates.

"They are very coachable and all of those things make a special team."
