The Netherlands won the junior dressage team competition as action continued today at the International Equestrian Federation European Championships for Children, Juniors and Young Riders in Fontainebleau.

The Dutch quartet of Milou Dees, Kimberly Pap, Thalia Rockx and Daphne van Peperstraten registered an unrivalled total of 219,757 per cent at the French commune’s Grand Parquet Equestrian Stadium.

Van Peperstraten, who took the lead in the individual standings with a final average of 75.909 per cent, paid tribute to the country’s eventing coach, Jan van Beek, who passed away on Monday (July 9).

"I managed to ride as I had hoped for and I got a great score," she said.

"I am happy with this victory and also to take the lead in the individual ranking.

"We started this Championship with a lot of sadness after the death of Jan van Beek, but it brought the team together and made us stronger.

"We did our best to honour him today.

"Now we’re going to drink champagne."

Germany finished second with 216,816 per cent and Denmark rounded out the podium with 211,877 per cent.

In the children's team jumping event, Germany's Charlotte Höing, Mikka Roth, Mick Haunhorst, Chiara Reyer and Henry Munsberg came out on top at the end of the two rounds held over the past two days.

Stringing together faultless rides and finishing with just four penalty points overall, the German riders preserved the leader status they had assumed in the first part of the Championship.

"I’m so proud of my team-mates today," Reyer said.

"I had a lot of pressure during my ride because I knew we could drop in the standings if I made a mistake.

"I’m so happy.

"My horse fought so hard for me.

"There are no words to describe my happiness."

Ireland finished second with eight penalty points, while Belgium came third with 13.

Action in Fontainebleau is due to continue tomorrow.
