Two of the country's victories today came in combat sambo with Junior Contreras beating Argentina's Pavel Rybin in the 52 kilograms final and Rafelin Perez defeating Ecuador's Lenin Guerra in the 62kg gold medal match.

There was also a hat-trick of successes for the Dominican Republic in sport sambo competition at the Emotion Casino Jai Alai.

Nayeli Perez overcame Peru’s Isabel Quijandria in the women's 52kg final, while Aracelis Sosa beat home favourtie Nancy Hernandez to top honours in the women's 68kg category.

In the men's 57kg title decider, Oliver Guevara proved too strong for the United States' Leon Simakhov.

Nicaragua and Colombia claimed two gold medals each today.

Both of Colombia's were won in combat sambo thanks to final wins over opponents from the Dominican Republic.

Juan Montoya beat Luis Medrano at 74kg, while Juan Casas defeated Murphe Almarante at over-100kg.

Nicaragua’s triumphs also came at the expense of athletes from the Dominican Republic with Sayra Laguna overcoming Evelin Cuevas in the women’s 60kg final and Moises Frederick beating Bladimir Frias in the men’s 100kg.

The three other finals held today saw Venezuela’s Sandy Mijarez defeat Costa Rica’s Anthonny Molina in the men’s 68kg, Costa Rica’s Cristopher Villalobos overcome Ecuador’s Andres Prado in the men’s 82kg, and Panama’s Jean Cordoba beat Mexico’s Jose Torres in the combat sambo 90kg.

The US’s Nina Cutro-Kelly was the sole competitor in the women’s over-80kg category.

Completing the event's programme was a beach sambo exhibition tournament.

Competition in the discipline, making its debut at the Championships, took place on Papagayo Beach.

The categories were the men's over-82kg and women's over-64kg.
