Czech Republic shocked fourth seeds Malaysia at the World Squash Federation (WSF) World Junior Team Championships in Chennai today, to make their first semi-final, as strong favourites Egypt cruised past Hong Kong.

The entire day’s play at the Indian Squash Academy was devoted to quarter-finals, in the main draw, the nine to 16 draw and the 17 to 24 draw.

Number one seeds Egypt played Hong Kong in the first match to take place in the main draw today and they sauntered through without issue.

Mostafa Asal made it 1-0 to Egypt by beating Chan Chi Ho, 11-3, 11-9, 11-5, before Marwan Tarek sealed the win by beating Chung Yat Long 11-7, 11-4, 11-6.

With the result already secured Mostafa El Serty then played for the whitewash and promptly grabbed it after 15 minutes, winning 11-5, 11-9 against To Wai Lok.

In the second match in the main draw the Czech Republic faced Malaysia.

Considering the Czechs have only qualified for the tournament once before, when they finished 19th in 2008, the Malaysians were the strong favourites.

The form book was not to stop the Czechs though and after two tight matches they sealed the win 2-0.

Ondrej Vorlicek beat Siow Yee Xian first up, 11-4, 12-10, 6-11, 11-2 in 43 minutes, before Viktor Byrtus came from behind to beat Darren Rahul Pragasam 10-12, 11-9, 11-1, 11-6 in 51 minutes.

In the second set of main draw quarter-finals England faced Pakistan, who yesterday knocked out the hosts India, and the number two seeds Canada played the number eight seeds the United States.

The England v Pakistan tie was the first to finish, with the score reading 2-1 to the English.

James Wyatt put them 1-0 up with a five game 47-minute win over Muhammad Uzair, 8-11, 11-2, 11-2, 8-11, 11-2.

Nick Wall then sealed the tie for England, beating Abbas Zebb 11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6.

Harris Qasim won a consolation match for Pakistan, beating Sam Todd 12-10, 9-11, 11-9.

The last quarter-final to finish, Canada versus the US, was comfortably the closest of the day and it was the favourites in the match, Canada, that crashed out.

James Flynn put the second seeds ahead by coming from two down to beat Tiber Worth in the first match, 8-11, 8-11, 11-2, 11-2, 11-6.

But the US then drew level when Canada's Julien Gosset retired from his match against Daelum Majwi with the score finely poised at two games all.

Gosset’s retirement meant it came down to George Crowne to win the match for Canada in the decider, but it was Thomas Rosini for the US that prevailed.

Rosini took the decider 11-9, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, to knock the second seeds out of the competition.

It means the semi-finals will see the favourites Egypt play the Czech Republic, while England will face the US.
