Italy's Elena Micheli won the girls’ modern pentathlon title at the World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic today, with a score of 1,354 points.

Micheli finished just eight points ahead of Spain’s Laura Heredia in second, while Xiuting Zhong from China finished third with 1,325 in Kladno in an event organised by the International Modern Pentathlon Union. 

Micheli started the day with a sixth-place finish in the fencing to gain 232 points but then picked up a strong total of 283 points by finishing second in the swimming.

Another strong performance in the riding saw her finish third and gain another 300 points before 539 points in the combined running and shooting leg saw her take the title.

Fourth place went to Great Britain’s Zoe Davison, who in stifling conditions, produced her best ever induvial performance to finish just outside of the medals.

The men’s race is due to take place tomorrow.
