The Wheelchair Basketball World Championships begins tomorrow ©IWBF

Germany's men's and women's teams will be in action on day one on their home ground of Hamburg when the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) World Championships get underway tomorrow at the Wilhelmsburger Inselparkarena.

The flagship event, which runs until August 26, will feature 16 men's teams and 12 women's teams vying for the world title in what is one of the largest international Para-sport events outside the Paralympic Games.

The hosts' men's team start their campaign with a Pool A match against Morocco, which will be followed by Germany's women, beaten in the last final four years ago by Canada, playing their opening Pool B fixture against Algeria.

The defending women's champions Canada, drawn in Pool A, have their first match against Britain on Friday (August 17) afternoon.

Reigning Paralympic gold medallists the United States will begin against France tomorrow.

Canada's men's and women's teams will contain 15 athletes with Paralympic experience.

The men's team, London 2012 champions but not present at the last World Championships at Incheon, South Korea, will be co-captained by David Eng and Bo Hedges.

Australia, the United States and Turkey, respectively gold, silver and bronze medallists in Incheon, will all have to wait for their men's starts.

Australia play Argentina on Friday, while Saturday (August 18) sees the US, the Rio 2016 winners, play Poland and Turkey meet Japan.
