The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has awarded the 2020 edition of its World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) to Malmö.

National teams will compete in the Swedish city between July 18 and 25 in the men's and women's under-20 divisions.

Around 50 teams are expected to compete after the successful bid from local club team Kockums Ultimate.

Malmö is separated from Danish capital Copenhagen by the Öresund Bridge and officials from both Sweden and Denmark have been involved with the bid.

It is hoped that the legacy and benefits will be felt in both countries.

"WFDF is proud to partner with such an exciting tournament host city for WJUC 2020," said WFDF President Robert Rauch.

"Malmö and the WJUC 2020 Tournament Organising Committee will host a world-class event for the players, spectators and volunteers.

"WJUC will use the exceptional fields and stadiums that exist throughout the city, and we look forward to bringing ultimate to the people of Malmö and introducing players to the beating heart of the city."

Attila Juhasz, head of events at the City of Malmö, added: "This event is very much in line with the strategies of the City of Malmö, especially its focus on social sustainability."

This year's WJUC begins in Waterloo, Canada, tomorrow.
