But Britain, with Laurie Williams and Amy Conroy jointly top-scoring with 14, were not to be denied.

Later, Britain's men made a strong start to their own campaign as they beat South Korea 77-58.

In the earlier Pool A game today, Australia beat Brazil 61-44.

China’s women made it two wins from two with a second victory, defeating France 58-27.

Paralympic gold medallists the United States were also in commanding form, thrashing Algeria 81 in Pool B.

Defending men’s champions Australia got off to a good start with a 74-55 win over Argentina in their opening Pool D match.

In other men’s matches today, Japan beat Italy 58-50 in Pool C, and Canada beat Morocco 77-47 in Pool A.

The tournament in the German city is due to continue tomorrow.
