Running until Sunday (September 9), the event  has attracted a huge gathering of 435 players, carrying total prize money of $75,000 (£58,000/€64,500).

Maulana's compatriot Vicky Saputra beat India's Ajay Jayaram 21-19, 21-17 and now meets home fourth seed Kashyap Parupalli, while another Indonesian, Chico Wardoyo, also beat home opposition in the form of Adrian George, 21-10, 21-12, to earn a second round match against India's second seed, B Sai Praneeth.

Meanwhile, four women came through qualifying to earn a place in the women’s singles main draw first round that starts tomorrow - two home players, Simran Singhi and Aakarshi Kashyap, South Korea’s Se Young An, and Choirunnisa Choirunnisa of Indonesia.
