India’s top seed Sameer Verma faces a fourth successive match against a fellow countryman tomorrow as he meets RMV Gurusaidutt for a place in the men’s singles final at the inaugural Badminton World Series Hyderabad Open.

Verma, world-ranked 21, had a struggle before winning his quarter-final match against Pratul Joshi 16-21, 26-24, 21-7.

On the other side of the men’s draw Indonesia’s seventh seed Firman Kholik progressed with an 18-21, 21-15, 21-14 win over compatriot Vicky Saputra.

His semi-final opponent will be Singapore’s Joo Ven Sung, who beat South Korea’s eighth seed Kwang Hee Heo 19-21, 24-22, 24-22.

Only one seeded player remains in the women’s semi-finals – fourth ranked Joy Deng of Hong Kong, who beat Iris Wang of the United States 15-21, 21-10, 21-15 to earn a meeting with Singapore’s Jia Min Yeo, who defeated home player and fifth seed Sri Kudravalli, 21-12, 21-12.

The other semi-final will be an all-South Korean affair between Ga Eun Kim, who beat compatriot Se Young An 21-12, 18-21, 21-19, and Yu Jin Sim, who beat India’s Rasike Raje 21-19, 21-8.

Action is taking place at the G.M.C Balayogi SATS Indoor Stadium.
