A total of 900 athletes from 62 nations will compete in Bulgaria at the World Rowing event, which will conclude on September 16.

The event will see titles claimed in 14 Olympic disciplines, along with a further six international and nine Para-rowing competitions.

Among the highlights will be the men's and women's single sculls events.

Two-time Olympic champion Mahe Drysdale is expected to face competition from fellow New Zealand athlete Robbie Manson in the men's competition.

Jeannine Gmelin of Switzerland will be the favourite in the women's event, with the defending champion having impressed during the season.

Gmelin secured the European title last month in Glasgow.

Ireland's Sanita Puspure and Austria's Magdalena Lobnig will hope to put pressure on the Swiss star.

Martin and Valent Sinkovic of Croatia are among the contenders in the men's pair event.

They could face competition from another pair of brothers, with Valentin and Theophile Onfroy of France also among the contenders.

New Zealand's Kerri Gowler and Grace Prendergast are favourites to secure victory in the women's event.

Heats and repechage rounds are set to provide the focus of the opening days of the Championships.

Finals will begin on Friday (September 14), with titles also claimed on the closing two days.
