Britain's Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid retained their US Open men's wheelchair doubles title after coming from behind to beat top seeds Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer in New York.

In a largely deserted Arthur Ashe Stadium, after a rain delay forced the match to start two hours after the women's final, the match finished 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.

The British pair, who have also won the last three Wimbledon titles, initially failed to take six match points when leading the deciding championship tiebreak 9-3.

They took the title, however, at the 11th time of asking against their French opponents.

Earlier, compatriot Andy Lapthorne and his US partner David Wagner won the quad doubles title by beating second seeds Dylan Alcott and Bryan Barten 6-3, 0-6, 10-4.

Lapthorne also won the US Open quad singles title in 2014, but this year he lost out to his doubles partner Wagner in the singles, 6-4, 6-2.

Australia's Hewett, meanwhile, will have a chance tomorrow to add the singles title to his doubles crown, when he plays Japan's world number one Shingo Kunieda.
