Brazil beat Uruguay 3-1 today to make it four wins out of four in the men’s event at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey Series Open in Chile’s capital Santiago.

Joaquin Lopez opened the scoring for the Brazilians before a brace from Matheus Borges put them into a 3-0 lead.

Gonzalo Martinoni pulled one back for Uruguay in the 52nd minute but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Brazil hold a two-point advantage over hosts Chile in the pool standings going into the final round of matches.

Chile thrashed Venezuela 7-0 today to move onto 10 points.

They must beat Brazil tomorrow to leapfrog them into first place and take the title.

The one other men’s match held today saw Peru defeat Bolivia 5-0 in a battle between two teams that had previously failed to register a win.

In the women’s event, Chile and Uruguay both maintained their perfect records to set-up a mouth-watering winner-takes-all encounter tomorrow.

Chile overcame Peru 8-0, while Uruguay beat Brazil 4-0.

There was also a second victory of the tournament for Paraguay, who defeated Bolivia 3-0.

As well as Chile’s meeting with Uruguay, tomorrow is also due to see Paraguay face Brazil and Peru go up against Bolivia.

The men’s event schedule includes matches between Uruguay and Bolivia, and Peru and Venezuela, before the all-important clash between Chile and Brazil.
