Germany's Bjorn Gunther was one of four winners on the final day of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Weightlifting Championships in Biała Podlaska in Poland as the heavyweight categories took centre stage.

Gunther claimed the men's 105 kilograms title with a total of 338kg at the Józef Piłsudsk University of Physical Education.

Matthew Scott McCarty of the United States finished second with 335kg, while Chinese Taipei's Lin Sheng-Lun came third with 333kg.

In the men's over-105kg category, Serbia’s Tamaš Kajdoči prevailed with 388kg.

There were also two women's events held today with Belgium's Anna Van Bellinghen winning 90kg gold and South Korea's Ko A-Rang taking the over-90kg crown.

The event concluded with a Closing Ceremony.

FISU first vice-president Leonz Eder praised the organisers and the excellence of the participants.

Anikó Németh-Móra, in charge of supervising the event, said: "As FISU technical delegate for weightlifting, I am happy and proud to have had another successful World University Championships like this one in Biała Podlaska. 

"All participants had a great time and enjoyed perfect competing, lodging and catering conditions. 

"Last but not least, we must be grateful to the hosts for their traditional warm Polish hospitality."

International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) technical delegate Mátyás Lencsér added: "The IWF has also expressed its full satisfaction and appreciation to the hosts for what was an entirely excellent event with 26 countries participating."
