Malaysia overcame South Korea 4-2 to secure a place in the semi-finals of the 2018 Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Oman's capital Muscat.

Malaysia took the lead in the 11th minute through Firhan Ashari, but South Korea's Yang Ji-Hun and Jang Jong-Hyun soon made it 2-1 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex

Sharil Saabah equalised for Malaysia before Tengku Tajuddin and Faizal Saari secured the 4-2 win.

Malaysia are now set to face defending champions India tomorrow, with both teams having won three out of three games so far.

With the top four teams at the end of the round robin stage qualifying for the semi-final, Malaysia and India's nine points each have already secured them a place in the next round.

"In the beginning we were searching what way to play," Malaysia’s Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans, who was India's coach until last year, said.

"The important thing is that we scored four goals.

Oltmans added: "The Koreans can be very tough opponents.

"I will look at India’s matches tonight.

"India has played well and got a bit more goals than us in three games so far."

In the other match today, Pakistan beat the hosts Oman 8-1 to move into third place in the qualifying group and almost certainly book their place in the semi-finals.

Aleem Bilal hit a hat-trick for Pakistan while Muhammad Irfan, Ammad Butt, Muhammad Irfan, Abu Bakar Mehmood and Muhammad Atiq also scored.

Oman remain bottom of the group and are scheduled to play South Korea, the only other team without a point, tomorrow.
