China have won the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Mixed Team Championships title for an incredible 12th time after beating South Korea 3-1 in the final in Canada.

The Chinese, the defending champions coming into the competition at the Pan Am Centre in Markham, almost crashed out in the semi-finals before clawing it back against Japan to win 3-2.

They were a point away from defeat yesterday and early on it looked as if they might be in trouble in the final as well.

In the first match of the tie, the mixed doubles, the Chinese pair of Zijian Di and Chang Wang were beaten 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 by Tae Yang Shin and Chan Wang.

Not wanting a repeat of the semi-final drama, China rallied after that first loss and drew the match level after an incredibly tight women's singles match.

Zhiyi Wang lost the first game 23-21, but pulled it back to win the next two 21-16, 21-10 in an hour and nine minutes.

In the men's singles Shifeng Li then had a more comfortable time of it in his match, putting China ahead for the first time with a 21-13, 22-20 win over Ji Hoon Choi.

The world title was then sealed in the race to three when Xuanxuan Liu and Yuting Xia won their mixed doubles match 21-14, 21-15 against Eun Seo Jang and Jung Hyun Lee.

It means having started the competition so comfortably, China have taken home the title after being forced to come from behind in both the semi-finals and final.

The World Junior Championships will now resume on Monday (November 12) with singles and doubles tournaments.
