Australia's Luke Missen is one win away from gold in the SS6 singles event after he beat compatriot Kobie Donovan 21-4, 21-6 at the Leisuretime Sports Precinct.

Donovan lost his first match to Missen but prevailed over Fiji's Iosefo Rakesa 21-7, 21-8.

Rakesa, who is competing at his first Para-badminton competition, is set to play Missen tomorrow to decide the medals.

Elsewhere, Richard Davis is in pole position for the hosts as he won both his round-robin ties against compatriots Pradeep Hewavitharana and Duke Trench-Thiedeman in the men's singles WH1 event.

His 21-16, 21-11 win over Hewavitharana started the perfect first day for the Australian.

Despite dropping the first game against Trench-Thiedeman, Davis managed to prevail 15-21, 21-13, 21-11.

He will play Daniel O'Neil in tomorrow's concluding match.

Davis is also top in the men's doubles WH1 and WH2 as he partnered Grant Manzoney to another two wins on the first day.

The Australian duo beat compatriots Trench-Thiedeman and Douglas Youlten 21-7, 21-6 as well as Michael Colin McDonald and O'Neil 21-8, 21-4.

Richard Engles and Hewavitharana also won both their opening doubles matches in the event but they dropped a game against Trench-Thiedeman and Youlten before triumphing 18-21, 21-18, 21-16.

Caitlin Dransfield continued the hosts' success as she too topped the mixed doubles and women’s singles events in her SL3 and SL4 class.

Dransfield partnered New Zealand’s Corrie Keith Robinson to victory over Australian duo Hayden Bognar and Celine Vinot 21-3, 21-6 as well as a 21-9, 21-11 defeat of Phonexay Kinnavong and Anu Francis.

"We worked really well together as a pair this morning and I am extremely happy to have won both matches,” said Dransfield.

"We hope our winning streak continues into tomorrow as I hope to win gold."

In the women’s singles SL 3 and SL 4 the Australian also won her first two matches.

She triumphed over compatriot Francis 21-6, 21-2 before dominating Vinot 21-5, 21-1.
