Mikaela Shiffrin will hope to bounce back from defeat as the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup heads to Croatia's capital Zagreb.

The World Cup event comes four days after Shiffrin was beaten by Slovakia's Petra Vlhová in the final of a duel slalom competition in Oslo, Norway.

The American has, however, proved the dominant force this season on the women’s World Cup circuit.

Shiffrin looks set to continue her recent battle with Vlhová, whose triumph in Norway was her second World Cup win of the season.

Both skiers will expect to finish towards the top of the standings after two runs of the slalom event in Zagreb tomorrow.

While the focus will be on the women’s event tomorrow, attention will then turn to the men’s competition on Sunday (January 6).

Austria’s Marcel Hirscher, a seven-time World Cup champion, will hope to return to the top of the podium.

Hirscher was eliminated at the semi-final stage of competition in Oslo.

His compatriot Marco Schwarz was able to secure his first World Cup win.

Hirscher maintained his lead in the overall standings, which he will hope to extend with victory in Zagreb.
