The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) has announced the initial selection of athletes for the 2019 United States men's wheelchair basketball team, which will participate at the Parapan American Games in Lima.

The selection was made following a four-day selection camp at the Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs.

Nineteen athletes have been initially picked for the US's 2019 team, including nine who won gold at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and 11 who claimed silver at the 2018 International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) World Championships.

This includes Mike Paye and Steve Serio, who were the two captains for the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto where the US won gold.

Ian Lynch, Nate Hinze, John Boie, Trevon Jenifer and Jorge Sanchez are among those who have been selected following their time at the IWBF World Championships in Hamburg.

Joining the team for the first time is Eric Rodriguez, with Dylan Fischbach and Tyler Buysse being selected for the second time.

"It has been a pleasure to work with the high quality of athletes that attended this try-out," said 2019 US men's wheelchair basketball head coach Ron Lykins.

"I'm thoroughly impressed with their continued improvement each day.

"I again appreciate the effort and performance of all athletes that attended the 2019 Toyota Team USA Men's Selection Camp."

Thirty-seven athletes attended the training camp last week.

The team that has been initially selected will now participate in another training camp in May at the Olympic Training Centre, with the final team for the Parapan American Games announced afterwards.

The Games will take place in the Peruvian capital of Lima from August 23 to September 1.
