British Canoeing has announced ready-made sports meal company Fuel for Sport as its official performance meal provider.

Fuel for Sport is a Nottingham-based company who provide athletes with nutritional, ready-to-eat meals that are convenient when training or competing.

The meals can be eaten hot or cold and have a shelf-life of 12 months without refrigeration, making it easy for canoeists to fuel the 25 hours a week they spend in the gym or on water.

They are also convenient for overseas competitions, where familiar and nutritionally-balanced meals are not always easy to access.

Fuel for Sport will provide in-competition meals and snacks, as well as regular meal drops throughout the year to British Canoeing training headquarters in Nottingham.

"We are delighted to partner with Fuel For Sport," Gareth May, British Canoeing business development manager, said.

"Their solution to provide nutritional ‘ready’ meals that meet our athletes’ dietary requirements is fantastic.

"It is a real help to those athletes who need a food source that they can rely on when away at competition, or as a quick solution if unable to prepare and cook a meal after a day’s training.

"The variety on offer has proven to be very popular with the athletes, and we look forward to forging a partnership with Fuel For Sport."

"British Canoeing has a proud history of success on the world stage and we’re excited to partner with them as they work towards dominating on the international circuit," Fuel for Sport director Tom Mawhood said.

"We understand the challenges athletes have when it comes to preparing meals that not only meet their strict dietary requirements but are also tasty and convenient.

"We believe Fuel for Sport is a solution they can trust, that will help to give them time back in their day and take the guesswork out of meal prep."

Fuel for Sport also have a number of athlete sponsorships, including British canoe sprint athlete and Olympian Rebeka Simon, 2016 Paralympic Paracanoe champion Emma Wiggs and junior canoe marathon silver medallist Charlie Smith.

They also sponsor several rugby players, such as England international and Bath Rugby player Zach Mercer, Scotland's Blair Kinghorn, Jamie Ritchie and Magnus Bradbury and Canadian international and Nottingham Rugby player Shane O’Leary.
