Team World won all nine games against North America on the opening day of the Continental Cup of Curling in Las Vegas.

The first day of the competition based on the format used by golf's Ryder Cup saw Team World completely dominate.

The first draw of the day saw three mixed doubles games take place at the Orleans Arena, with Switzerland's Peter De Cruz and Esther Neuenschwande defeating North America's Brad Gushue and Lisa Weagle 10-7.

Scotland's Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds then beat Rachel Homan and Kevin Koe, before their compatriots Hammy MacMillan Jr. and Vicki Chalmers made it 3-0 to Team World with a 9-3 victory over Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant.

The second draw of the day went much the same way for Team World.

Switzerland's Sven Michel and Alina Patz triumphed against Jennifer Jones and Mark Nichols 8-4, Sweden's Oskar Eriksson and Anna Hasselborg defeated Monica Walker and John Shuster 6-4 and fellow Swedes Rasmus Wrana and Agnes Knochenhauer beat Kaitlyn Lawes and Geoff Walker 8-3.

These victories saw Team World go into the women's team play event 6-0 up overall.

Muirhead then skipped her team to a 5-3 victory over Team Jones, before the rink led by Hasselborg overcame Team Homan 8-3.

Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni ensured an opening day clean sweep against North America when her team beat Jamie Sinclair's team 6-5.

“We said before this draw what was better than six-and-oh and we said nine-and-oh,” said Hasselborg.

“We did that and we’re super happy and everyone is playing great and having tons of fun.

"We’ll have some celebration tonight in our players lounge.”

Team World have not won the competition since 2012.

Tomorrow will see six more mixed doubles games, before the men's team play event in the evening.
