Peru's National Water Ski Championship has been held at Cañete's Laguna Bujama, which will play host to the sport at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.

The results obtained at the event will go some way towards determining the four main athletes and two substitute athletes that will be part of the Peruvian team at Lima 2019.

They will be combined with those from this year's second National Championship, scheduled to take place in March, to give a total score.

The two-day event featured competition in slalom, tricks and jumps, all of which have been included on the Lima 2019 programme.

In the women's category, Lima 2019 ambassador María Alejandra de Osma won the gold medal in slalom, jumps and overall, and silver in tricks.

Natalia Cuglievan, a gold medallist at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, won the tricks event.

Andrea Tejada also claimed medals, taking silver in slalom and jumps.

In the men's category, Rafael De Osma triumphed in slalom, jumps and overall.

He also won the silver medal in tricks.

Felipe Franco, meanwhile, produced an excellent performance to top the tricks podium.

Laguna Bujama is considered one of the best five settings worldwide to practice water skiing.

It was also chosen as the Lima 2019 venue for open water swimming due to its ideal temperature for competitions.

The Pan American Games are due to take place from July 26 to August 11.

They will be followed by the Parapan American Games, from August 23 to September 1.
