Sverri Nielsen earned a gold medal at the European Rowing Indoor Championships in Copenhagen.

The Farose rower, competing for Denmark at the event, won the men’s open 2,000 metres competition at the Gladsaxe Sports Arena.

Nielsen achieved a time of 5min 47.2sec in the competition to top the standings, narrowly lowering his Danish record of 5:47.9.

He achieved his previous mark at the Championships at Paris in 2017.

Italian rower Martino Goretti won the men’s lightweight 2,000m event, as he achieving a time of 6:08.9.

Goretti previously competed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the men’s lightweight coxless four.

He also a gold medal at the World Rowing Championships in 2006 in the men’s lightweight eight competition.

The one-day indoor Championships was hosted by the Danish Rowing Federation.

They were supported by the Bagsværd Rowing Club and rowing machine manufacturer Concept2 Denmark.

Events range in length from 500m to 2,0000m, with relay competitions also held.

A wide range of age group events took place.
