The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) competition will be held in Leeds at the John Charles Centre for Sport from August 11 to 18.

Six teams will participate in a round-robin format.

This will include reigning champions Finland, who won the 2015 tournament in Spain.  

Britain has risen rapidly in prominence in the women's game, finishing second in the 2015 Championships and fourth in the 2017 World Championships in Vancouver.

They are now the number one ranked European team. 

"This is fantastic news for BAFA, the country and the development of women's football in Great Britain," said BAFA chair Nichole McCulloch.

"The women's game has gone from strength to strength over recent years and the staging of this event will provide a tremendous opportunity to showcase the very best of the sport to the British public and engage a new generation of girls into the sport."

The John Charles Stadium has experience in holding American football competitions, having hosted numerous BritBowl and British University Championship games. 

Competing teams will be accommodated at Leeds Beckett University.

"We look forward to the staging of the Women's European Championship in Leeds," said IFAF Director for Europe, Gregor Murth.

"I have no doubt that BAFA will host a tremendous event and the athletes of Europe will look forward to the hospitality and support of the people of Leeds."
