The deal allows for the distribution of an international signal to rights holding broadcasters on the Eurovision Global Network and covers the upcoming Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk next month and the Summer Games in Naples this July.

The deal with the business arm of the European Broadcasting Union also see coverage provided of FISU’s 3x3 basketball and football World Cups.

"We’re delighted to partner with FISU to help maximise the reach of their events to audiences around the world," Eurovision Services chief executive Marco Tinnirello said.

"Great events don’t happen by accident.

"A lot of hard work goes into making sure that the right content reaches the right audiences, on the right platform at the right time.

"We look forward to distributing and offering additional digital services to personalise and enhance the content coming from these unique events."

FISU’s secretary general Eric Saintrond, meanwhile, emphasised the need for strong broadcast partnerships.

"The distribution through Eurovision Services will allow us to not only promote our universiades but will also help us bring our World University Championships and other single sport events to fans throughout the year, year upon year."

At the Krasnoyarsk Winter Universiade, due to take place between March 2 and 12, four simultaneous feeds will be available to the worldwide Eurovision network, as will live and recorded content edited for news and highlights.

Last month, FISU signed a similar three-year television deal with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) that will see content from FISU events distributed across the Asia-Pacific region.

The ABU Sports Network allows for the sharing of audio/video content from major sports events across Asia and the Pacific.

It also offers free access to daily highlights and will soon offer live streaming as well.
