Competing on his home track at the Althiqah Club in Sharjah, the three-time Paralympic medallist won the men’s T33/34 800 metres, having won the 400m event yesterday.

The 33-year-old, the reigning Paralympic champion in the 800m event, finished first in 1min 44.42sec ahead of two Canadians, Austin Smeenk, who finished eighth at Rio 2016, and Lee Leclerc.

They crossed the line in 1:49.48 and 1:53.50 respectively.

In a session heavily featuring wheelchair events, three finals went ahead at 100m.

In the men’s T51/52 final the gold medal  was taken by Japan’s Tatsuya Ito in 18.96, while the T53 event was won by Thailand’s Pongsakom Paeyo in 15.75 and the T54 final was claimed by Saudi Arabia’s Jamaan Alzahrani in 14.88.

Alzahrani came fourth in the same event at the Asian Para Games in Jakarta last year.

There were no women’s track events today but In the field three women’s discus finals went ahead, including in the F32-34/54 wheelchair division.

That was won by Algeria’s 2017 world club throw champion Mounia Gasmi who threw 11.57 metres.

The hosts picked up another medal through Aishah Salem Alkhaaldi, who came second with a throw of 12.15m.

The bronze medal was claimed by India’s Sadhana Mallick with 14.48m.
