UNICEF have held a two-day seminar on global volunteering for those volunteering at this year's European Games in Minsk.

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is the world's leading organisation working for children in danger.

They organised the seminar in collaboration with the Directorate of the Second European Games.

Experts from UNICEF shared their best practices and knowledge of global volunteering to those who will volunteer at the Games, including representatives of national governing bodies and regional sports officials.

"The seminar is an example of our successful cooperation with the UNICEF Office in Belarus, which is a national partner of the Second European Games," Anatoly Kotov, deputy chief executive of Minsk 2019, said.

Kotov added: "We are happy that we have embarked on an interesting joint project that has to do with volunteering.

"We want our joint project to set an example of volunteer engagement in other countries of the world.

"We want to show how to use multi-sport competitions or other events to bring together people who want to help and keep them motivated in the future."

It is hoped that the seminar will be repeated in the run up to the Games, due to take place between June 21 and 30, and the collaboration with UNICEF will continue once the event is over.

"We believe that after the Second European Games we will have a large group of volunteers who will help us with various projects." said UNICEF's representative in Belarus, Rashed Mustafa Sarwar.
