Germany triumphed at the International Equestrian Federation Jumping Nations Cup competition in Abu Dhabi as hosts United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia qualified for the season-ending final.

The German quartet of Mario Stevens, Sven Schlusselburg, Miriam Schneider and Philipp Weishaupt finished with six penalties as the lowest scores from each round were discarded.

Stevens, riding Talisman de Mazure, and Schneider, on board Fidelius G, both recorded clear rounds in the winning effort.

Schneider was only competing as her boyfriend Jörg Naeve had to withdraw from the team two days ago.

Ireland finished second as Trevor Breen, David Simpson, Shane Breen and Mark McAuley ended on 13 penalties.

Home side the UAE tallied 18 penalties in third thanks to Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum, Nadia Abdul Aziz Taryam, Abdullah Mohd Al Marri and Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi.

It books them a spot at the 2019 Final in Barcelona as the event was doubling as a Middle East region qualifier, with the best two performing countries earning a place.

Saudi Arabia duly joined their neighbours as Abdulrahman Bader Alrajhi, Khaled Abdulrahman Almobty, Abdullah Al Sharbatly and Ramzy Al Duhami registered 18 penalties in fourth.

Egypt, Jordan and Syria were also competing in Abu Dhabi.
