Russia's top seed Sofya Velikaya beat South Korea's Sooyeon Choi to win the International Fencing Federation Women's Sabre Grand Prix in Cairo.

The 33-year-old Olympic silver medallist and two-time world champion entered the event as the favourite at the Cairo Stadium, despite having failed to make the final last time out in the United States.

Living up to her seeding the top ranked fencer in the draw took the win in the final, 15-12.

Berder was beaten in the last four by Veikaya in a reversal of the final in Salt Lake City, while Kharlan was knocked out by Choi.

Those matches both finished 15-14.
