Russia's Uliana Batashova beat Ireland's Natalya Coyle to first place in the women's individual event on day three of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup in Cairo.

Batashova won the final with an overall score of 1,358 points at the Platinum Club in the Egyptian capital.

Coyle had to settle for the silver medal with 1,347 points.

"It feels fantastic," Coyle was reported as saying by RTÉ.

"I'm absolutely delighted to come away with silver."

Rounding out the podium was Hungary's Sarolta Kovacs with 1,341 points.

Two points behind her was France's Elodie Clouvel in fourth place.

The men's final is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

It will be followed by the mixed relay on Sunday (March 3).

Cairo is hosting the first UIPM World Cup of the season.
