The United States have established a 20-point advantage over Russia in the men’s freestyle team rankings heading into the fourth and final day of competition at the United World Wrestling (UWW) Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov tournament in Bulgaria.

London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Jordan Burroughs made a considerable contribution to the US’s cause at the Arena Monbat in Ruse, outlasting Uzbekistan’s Bekzod Abdurakhmonov in the battle of reigning world bronze medallists to win the 74 kilograms title.

Burroughs' 4-3 victory was enough to give the US their second gold medal of the event following Alexander Dieringer’s triumph at 79kg yesterday.

The US had a second finalist today in Jordan Oliver, who lost 12-3 against world silver medallist Bajrang Punia of India at 65kg.

Georgia’s Beka Bujiashvili claimed the last men’s freestyle crown of the day, upsetting world bronze medallist Süleyman Atli of Turkey with a 6-4 win in the 57kg final.

In women's wrestling, Ukraine have moved into a 16-point lead over Turkey thanks to world bronze medallist Yuliia Tkach Ostapchuk's triumph in the 62kg category.

The 2014 world champion prevailed 4-2 over reigning world champion Taybe Yusein of Bulgaria and captured her third UWW Ranking Series title in the past two seasons.

Ostapchuk also tasted victory at last year’s Poland and China Opens and finished in second place at the Klippan Lady Open in Sweden.

Turkey sit in second place heading into the final day of wrestling in Ruse.

Yasemin Adar, the country’s 2017 world champion, scored a fall over China's Paliha Paliha in the 76kg final.

It handed Turkey their second gold medal of the event, adding to that of Buse Tosun at 72kg yesterday.

Tamyra Mensah was the second US victor of the day, winning her second consecutive UWW Ranking Series title in dominant fashion by beating Uzbekistan’s Bakhtigul Baltaniyazova 11-1 the 68kg final.

Action in Ruse is due to resume tomorrow.

The finals will begin after the completion of the repechage matches.
