A new law has been approved that will guarantee the organisation of this year's Pan American and Parapan American Games in the Peruvian capital Lima.
After listening to the case put forward by Carlos Neuhaus, President of the Lima 2019 Organising Committee, for the needs of the special project, members of the Congress Budget and General Account Committee agreed to the new legislation, which allows exceptional measures to be taken in the event of unforeseen emergencies and demands.
Having made his case before the Committee, Neuhaus went to outline the progress already made with the special project.
He detailed to members of Congress the organisation and construction of venues for the Pan American Games, that will take place in the Peruvian capital from July 26 to August 11.
"The Pan American and Parapan American Games are a state commitment based on agreements of responsibility with the governing bodies of these important international competitions," he said, referring to Panam Sports, the International Paralympic Committee and the Paralympic Committee of the Americas.
These three bodies are responsible for transmitting the requirements of the Olympic Committees of the 41 countries that will participate in this sports festival.
Neuhaus argued that this law was necessary, emphasising that it would allow the management of contingencies arising at the last moment.
"For those of us who have been athletes, when we see the work that the Organising Committee is doing, we have only to say that they are doing an excellent job, and that it is very positive for the Peruvian youth to form better citizens with values and discipline," said legislator Carlos Tubino.
