As reported by Yonhap, the ban is retroactive to March 3, when the 20-year-old was expelled after getting caught inside the dormitory on February 24.

It was handed to him by the Korea Skating Union (KSU) at a Disciplinary Committee meeting held today.

The KSU has also ordered the promising athlete to complete 20 hours of community service.

Kim had been given an access pass to enter the area by female short track speed skater Kim Ye-jin, who also received a reprimand and must perform 10 hours of community service.

According to Aju Business Daily, he was delivering medicine to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games women's 3,000 metres relay gold medallist.

With the suspension ending early next month, Kim will be able to skate in the national team trials for the 2019-2020 season.

These are scheduled to take place in Seoul on April 3 and 4.

Last week, in a separate disciplinary hearing, the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee banned Kim Gun-woo from re-entering the Jincheon National Training Center for three months and stopped Kim Ye-jin going there for one month.

The case follows a revelation by double Olympic gold medal-winning short track speed skater Shim Suk-hee that has led to widespread concern over the level of sexual abuse and harassment in South Korean sport.

Shim filed a complaint against her former coach Cho Jae-beom.

She accused him of raping and sexually molesting her multiple times, beginning in 2014 when she was a high school student in a report submitted to police.

Cho's lawyers have stated that he denies the allegations of sexual assault but he has already been convicted of physically assaulting four athletes, including Shim, between 2011 and 2018.

An Appeals Court in South Korea recently extended his prison sentence from 10 to 18 months.
