The event was jointly organised by the World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) - the umbrella organisation for the three cue sports - the French Federation and the Billiards 2024 organisation.

It was designed to showcase the three disciplines as a demonstration tournament to support a new format for the International Olympic Committee to accept billiards as an additional sport for inclusion in the Paris 2024 programme.

News last month that the Paris 2024 organisers had identified breakdancing, climbing, skateboarding and surfing as the four proposed additional sports for their Games was greeted with disappointment in WCBS circles.

The billiards 2024.paris site describes a sense of "unfairness", with coordinator Jean-Pierre Guiraud saying: "We are of course very surprised with the decision to blow the final whistle a few months short, but we are proud of our amazing campaign and we plan to build from all the positive waves it has created across the globe."

Europe’s men finished top of the general ranking today ahead of the Rest of the World, with France third and Asia fourth.

Europe’s women also enjoyed a successful second day as the beat the Rest of the World 2-1, with Turkey’s Gulsen Degener earning the decisive result in the last of the three games to finish, the three-cushion Carom event, where she defeated Peru’s Jackeline Perez 25-10.

In the final women’s event, France were beaten 3-0 by Asia.
