The images, used to promote each individual sport to athletes and fans alike, have been created by the Lausanne-based arts school ERACOM, with Lausanne 2020 claiming they have been made in line with their ambition "to actively involve young people in the preparation" of the Games.

The school also designed the Lausanne 2020 mascot Yodli.

"A total of 36 apprentices worked together to produce the 16 pictograms, which represent each of the winter sports included in the Lausanne 2020 programme," Lausanne 2020 said.

"All were validated by their respective international sport federation."

Adrien Jenni, the director of ERACOM, admitted  the school is "very proud" of the apprentices for their efforts.

"From around 30 initial proposals, three were shortlisted, with the winner named by a jury including representatives of ERACOM, Lausanne 2020 and the IOC (international Olympic Committee),” Jenni said.

"Just like the mascot, we are delighted to see these pictograms come to life and contribute to the identity of the 2020 Youth Games."

Once the final design was chosen, a class of fourth year students worked on their animation, with the pictograms set to be used on all Lausanne 2020 digital platforms.

"The success of Lausanne 2020 will partly be measured by its impact within schools," Lausanne 2020 chief executive Ian Logan said.

"Today, hundreds of young people are involved in the preparation of Lausanne 2020, developing new skills and knowledge in a variety of areas.

"The commitment of the youth is part of our project’s DNA and I would like to thank ERACOM for this high-quality work and fruitful collaboration.

"We look forward to working on more projects together."

Lausanne 2020 is due to take place from January 9 to 22 next year, featuring around 1,880 athletes from more than 80 countries.
