More than 300 primary and secondary school pupils will gather at a careers fair in Bridgetown on Monday (March 18), at an event organised by the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA).

The fair at the Lloyd Erskine Sandford Conference Centre is called the Young Change Maker Sports Career Awareness Fair and has been organised to raise awareness of career opportunities in sport.

The initiative was first dreamt up by Barbados Young Change Maker (YCM) representative Daneka Headley, currently sport for development officer at the BOA and who suggested the programme to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"The aim of this initiative is to provide YCMs with the platform to turn our passion for sport into concrete actions and to stay connected with other YCMs and the IOC, which gave life to this new initiative," Headley said.

According to the BOA, several local professional athletes will lead discussions at the event, as well as sports therapists, sport nutritionists, sport marketers, broadcasters and event managers among others.

It is set to have an "interactive setting", allowing students to engage with the professionals and discuss any career opportunities.
