The host nation were due to face Vanuatu and the Philippines but excessive rainfall in recent days rendered the pitch at the Amini Park venue unplayable.

Cricket Papua New Guinea said the matches would be rearranged for the tournament's rest days, scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday (March 24), to ensure all teams could complete their games.

Teams were hopeful the matches would take place as planned, despite the adverse weather in Port Moresby.

"We can’t control the weather but we are preparing the best we can and we will be focused and ready to go when the tournament starts," said Papua New Guinea captain Assadollah Vala.

The nation to finish top will book their place at the men's World Twenty20 qualifier set to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October and November.

Scotland, Zimbabwe, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Oman and Ireland have already booked a spot at the World Twenty20qualifier.

A group of six countries will advance through the tournament to earn a space at the 2020 World Twenty20 in Australia.
