Russia's women claimed the first International Volleyball Federation Snow Volleyball World Tour gold medal with victory over the United States in the final in Austria.

Olga Motrich, Anna Romashova, Olga Filina and Polina Lapteva beat the American team of Karissa Cook, Emily Hartong, Katherine Spieler and Alexandra Wheeler 19-17, 15-8 in Wagrain-Kleinarl.

"It was a difficult game against a very strong team and we are glad to have won it,” said Filina.

“We are all very happy.

"This is a beautiful place, very exciting atmosphere and good organisation.

"We enjoyed this tournament."

Argentina claimed a 15-13, 15-13 win over the Czech Republic to earn bronze.

Russia were on the brink of exiting the tournament when they lost the first set of their semi-final with Argentina before battling back to record a 13-15, 15-9, 15-6 triumph.

The US reached the final with a 15-7, 15-9 win against the Czech Republic.

Florian Schnetzer, Alexander Huber, Martin Streitfellner and Christoph Dressler won an all-Austrian men's gold medal match as they defeated compatriots Felix Friedl, Arwin Kopshar and Maximilian Trummer.

The team led by Schnetzer, competing as "Austria 1" overcame their team-mates 15-11, 15-10 to secure gold.

Russia's Pavel Rakusov, Yury Bogatov, Mikita Kuzmin and Petr Bakhnar earned bronze with a 15-10, 15-10 triumph against compatriots Adel Kayumov, Viktor Markov and Vitalii Shabalin.
