Cynthia Serwaah of Canada won the last women’s monobob race of the season at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation’s Lake Placid event today.

Serwaah, who had finished second behind Australia’s Ashleigh Werner on the first day of racing at Mount van Hoevenberg Sliding Track, went one better with a superb final run of 1min 02.51 that took her past first run leader Carrie Russell of Jamaica with a winning time of 2:05.80.

Russell, sixth yesterday, retained second place in 2:06.63, ahead of Shelby Williamson of the United States, who clocked 2:07.18.

Werner missed the podium by one place on this occasion, totalling 2:07.58.

The races concluded a training week with coaches and sleds provided by the IBSF and attended by female bobsleigh pilots from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Jamaica and the United States.

In the course of this season, the IBSF has scheduled eight training and race events in this new discipline in Europe, the United States and Canada.

Athletes from 14 nations have taken part.

In July 2018, the International Olympic Committee decided to include women's monobob in the Olympic programme.

The event is due make its first Olympic appearance at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.
