Cuba’s Idalys Ortiz triumphed at the Pan American Senior Judo Championships for the 14th time in her career as competition concluded in Lima.

The three-time Olympic medallist won the women’s over 78 kilogram competition at the Coliseum One of Videna National Sports Complex.

Ortiz, who claimed Olympic gold at London 2012, saw off the challenge of Brazil’s Maria Suelen Altheman in the gold medal match.

Brazil’s Beatriz Souza and Puerto Rico’s Melissa Mojica completed the podium with bronze in the heavyweight event.

Two-time Olympic bronze medallist Mayra Aguiar clinched victory in the women’s under-78kg division.

The Brazilian overcame Cuba’s Kaliema Antomarchi in the gold medal bout to seal a sixth continental title of her career.

The bronze medals were awarded to Argentina’s Lucia Cantero and Nefeli Papadakis of the United States.

Further success for the Brazilian team came in the men’s over-100kg final as Rafael Silva and David Moura went head-to-head for gold.

Silva, the double Olympic bronze medallist, emerged as the winner of the all-Brazilian bout to top the podium.

Cuba’s Andy Granda and Chile’s Francisco Solis secured bronze medals.

There was a maiden continental title for Canada’s Shady El Nahas as the 21-year-old celebrated victory in the 100kg event.

The Egyptian-born judoka beat Brazil’s Leonardo Goncalves in the final.

Liester Cardona of Cuba and Chile’s Thomas Briceno claimed bronze medals in the division.

The final gold medal of the Championships was earned by Cuba’s Ivan Morales as he defeated Brazil’s Rafael Macedo in the men’s 90kg final.

Dominican Republic’s Robert Florentino and Canada’s Zachary Burt earned bronze.
