Germany have announced their team for next month’s Women’s Under-25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships.

A squad of 10 has been selected by head coach Dennis Nohl and co-trainer Marina Mohnen for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) event in Thailand.

The squad selection was announced following a joint training camp with candidates for selection and the senior women’s squad.

The training camp in Bonn was billed as a chance for the team to prepare for the Championships and test line-ups against the full national team.

Lisa Bergenthal, Svenja Erni, Valeska Finger, Anna-Lena Hennig and Sarah Heibutzki were among the players named in the World Championship squad.

They are joined by Anna Jansen, Rebecca Lieb, Anne-Sophie Risse, Martha Schuren and Catharina Weiß.

“We have a successful course behind us and look expectantly towards the World Championship,” said Nohl.

“We worked a lot on our decision-making competence and our defensive behaviour and gave the young athletes much input for their individual work in the clubs and also at home.”

The Championships in Thailand will take place from May 23 to 28.

Germany will face a group stage against Australia, Turkey and the United States.

All four teams will progress to the quarter-finals, with their ranking in the standings set to determine their opponents.

“We want to create the best possible starting position for the quarter-finals in the group stage,” Nohl said.

“For this purpose, the games against Turkey and Australia are crucial.

“We definitely want to reach the semi-finals.”

The second group will feature host nation Thailand, Japan, South Africa and Britain, who have been tipped as one of the favourites.
