World champion Janja Garnbret of Slovenia will seek a fourth consecutive bouldering World Cup title tomorrow after topping qualifying today at the International Federation of Sport Climbing’s latest event in Wujiang in China.

Garnbret, who has collected victories at Chongqing, Moscow and Meiringen, finished ahead of Switzerland’s Petra Klinger and Futaba Ito of Japan.

Japan’s challenge looks likely to be strong tomorrow as Akiyo Noguchi finished joint fifth and Ai Mori seventh.

Garnbret’s compatriot, last year’s men’s World Cup bouldering champion Jernej Kruder, had a less satisfactory day, finishing in 19th place as he continues to seek the form that has eluded him in recent weeks.

Multiple world champion Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic, who missed Chingqing with sickness, finished fourth.

South Korea’s Jongwon Chon topped the list ahead of two Japanese rivals, Kai Harada and Meichi Narasaki..
