Japan will play the Philippines and China meet Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals of the 2019 Women's Softball Asia Cup in Jakarta.

A total of 10 teams have been competing at the Gelora Bung Karno’s Softball Stadium in an event that will see six teams go forward to the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s Softball Asia/Oceania 2019 qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Games.

That event will be held in Shanghai from September 24-29, with one qualifying place on offer.

World number two-ranked Japan - whose Olympic place is secured as hosts - has won he Asia Cup six times already, and moved confidently through to the last four with a 7-0 win over Indonesia in today’s play-offs.

The Philippines defeated South Korea 5-1, and China advanced after an 11-2 win over Hong Kong.

Chinese Taipei progressed with an emphatic 15-0 win over Thailand.

The Asia Cup final and bronze medal game are due to be played on Tuesday (May 7).
