Christoph Wahler has given Germany the lead after the first day of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Eventing Nations Cup season-opener at Houghton Hall in Britain. 

Germany have triumphed at the venue on the past four occasions and dominated again today. 

They lead with 55.0 after Wahler's performance on Carjatan S, with Sweden on second with 59.0.

In third after Switzerland with 60.5, while Nations Cup defending champions Britain are fifth with 67.5.

The competition continues tomorrow and finishes on Sunday (May 26). 

The overall winner is decided after seven legs, with Boekelo in the Netherlands hosting the final in October.
